Privacy Policy

The Weigh We Are is a shared weight-tracking board for small groups — a family, a friend group, a fitness accountability crew. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how it’s handled.

What we collect

• Email address — used to sign you in via a magic link, and to send invite emails.
• Display name — the name shown for you or a participant on a board.
• Weigh-in entries — a number, a unit (lbs or kg), and a date, tied to a participant on a board.

We don’t collect payment information, don’t use tracking pixels or third-party analytics, and don’t ask for any data beyond what’s needed to run a shared weight board.

Weigh-in data is sensitive

We treat weigh-in data as sensitive, health-adjacent personal information, and handle it carefully. It’s only visible to people with access to the specific board it belongs to (see “How boards are protected” below). We never sell it, never use it for advertising or profiling, and never share it with third parties — other than the infrastructure providers listed below, who process it solely to run the service, not for any purpose of their own.

How boards are protected — please read this

Free-tier boards are unlisted, not private. That means:

• Boards are never search-indexed — every board page is sent with an X-Robots-Tag: noindex header, and boards aren’t listed anywhere discoverable.
• However, anyone who has — or correctly guesses — a board’s exact URL (e.g. theweighweare.com/yourteam) can currently view it without signing in. Free boards are not access-controlled.

Boards used to live on subdomains (like yourteam.theweighweare.com). Old links in that format still work — they permanently redirect to the board’s current address.

In short: don’t share your board’s URL with anyone you don’t want to be able to see it. A paid plan with true login-gated private boards is on our roadmap, but it isn’t built yet, and we don’t have a ship date to promise.

Who processes your data (sub-processors)

We rely on a small number of infrastructure providers to run the service. Each only processes data as needed to provide their piece of the infrastructure — none of them use your data for their own purposes.

• Neon — hosts our Postgres database, which stores all application data (accounts, boards, participants, weigh-ins).
• Resend — delivers transactional email: sign-in magic links and invite emails. Resend receives your email address to deliver these.
• Sentry — error monitoring, used to catch and fix bugs. We’ve configured it to avoid capturing weigh-in data, but error-tracking tools can incidentally capture technical request context (like a page URL) when an error occurs.
• DigitalOcean — hosts the application server itself.

Cookies

We use a functional session cookie to keep you signed in. That’s it — no third-party tracking or advertising cookies.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account yourself from your account page. Deleting your account removes your sign-in, sessions, and email preferences, and unclaims your spot on any boards — which immediately hides your numbers from everyone except each board’s owner. One honest caveat: weigh-ins that were logged to a shared board stay part of that board’s history (you logged them precisely so your board could see them). If you want those scrubbed too, or anything else removed, email hello@theweighweare.com and we’ll handle it manually. Board owners can also delete an entire board — including all of its weigh-ins — from the board’s settings page.

Children

The Weigh We Are isn’t for children under 13, and boards must not include participants under 13 — that’s a rule, not a disclaimer. If we learn a board includes someone under 13, we’ll remove that participant and their weigh-in data. And if you’re thinking of adding a teenager to a family board: only do it with their knowledge, and only if they’re genuinely comfortable with it. Weight is personal at any age, and especially then.

EU/UK visitors

If you’re in the EU or UK, data-protection law asks us to name our legal bases for handling your data. In plain English:

• Consent — for the weigh-in data you choose to share to a board. You log it (or agree to have it logged) precisely so your board can see it, and you can withdraw that consent by asking us to delete it.
• Legitimate interest — for the basics of operating and securing the service: signing you in, sending the emails the service needs to send, and catching bugs and abuse.

Because this is weight data in a weight-tracking context, we treat it as health-related data and hold it to the higher standard that implies — see “Weigh-in data is sensitive” above.

You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time: email hello@theweighweare.com and we’ll handle it. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority if you think we’ve handled your data badly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service grows. If we make a material change, we’ll do our best to let you know, such as by posting a notice on the service or emailing you.
